1 Plasma Wakefield Diagnostic on AWAKE using Photon Acceleration Muhammad Firmansyah Kasim Supervisor: Peter A. Norreys and Philip N. Burrows

2 Overview Goal: to determine the wakefield profile along the plasma (i.e. average amplitude along the propagation) Probe characteristics: 800 nm, 10 mJ, 12 ps Limitations: – Average wakefield amplitude 0.2 – Minimum polarizer extinction ratio: 1000:1 (for 100 mJ pump pulse) – Minimum optics’ damage threshold: < 1 J/cm 2.

3 Some technical considerations Put polarizers, transport optics, and stretcher in the laser room (when the laser diameter is about 40-50 mm), so they can withstand with the laser intensity. Small extinction ratio? Add more polarizers.
