Definitions PLOT- the main events of a play, novel, movie, or similar work, devised and presented by the writer as an interrelated sequence. CLIMAX- the most intense, exciting, or important point in the story.

Plot Rainsford falls off the yatcht. He finds the mansion. He has dinner with General Zaroff and finds out that Zaroff hunts people. Rainsford figures out he is about to be hunted. While out getting hunted, Rainsford kills Zaroff’s sidekick, Ivan, and one of his dogs. At one of the most desperate moments in his fight for survival, Rainsford finds himself in a pickle; he must decide whether to jump off the cliff of face Zaroff and his hounds. Rainsford jumps and, by some miracle, survives. He returns to the palace and kills the general.

Climax The first climax is when Rainsford jumps off the cliff – the tension in the story is released as Rainsford plunges into the ocean. The second and final climax is when Rainsford actually fights and ultimately kills Zaroff – the tension in the story is released after Zaroff’s death because the reader finds Rainsford sleeping in a most comfortable bed.
