Information to Review As an NA II you are responsible for knowing what can be delegated to you: -Delegation and Assignment of Nursing Activities: http://www.ncbon.com/myfiles/downloads/position-statements- decision-trees/delegation-and-assignment-of-nursing-activities.pdf http://www.ncbon.com/myfiles/downloads/position-statements- decision-trees/delegation-and-assignment-of-nursing-activities.pdf -Delegation: Non-Nursing Functions: http://www.ncbon.com/myfiles/downloads/position-statements- decision-trees/delegation-non-nursing-functions.pdf http://www.ncbon.com/myfiles/downloads/position-statements- decision-trees/delegation-non-nursing-functions.pdf -Decision Tree for Delegation to UAP: http://www.ncbon.com/myfiles/downloads/position-statements- decision-trees/decision-tree-delegation-to-uap.pdf http://www.ncbon.com/myfiles/downloads/position-statements- decision-trees/decision-tree-delegation-to-uap.pdf

Information to Review Questions to ask yourself regarding delegation: 1.Am I able to do this task? 2.Am I competent at this task? Has someone validated my competency? 3.Have I had the opportunity to ask questions about this task? 4.Is a Nurse supervising and monitoring me? 5.Is a Nurse available if something goes wrong? 6.Have I provided feedback to the nurse regarding completion of the task? 7.Did I report changes in the client’s condition or care? If the answer to any of these is NO then you should not proceed!

Information to Review National Council of State Boards of Nursing: Delegation https://www.ncsbn.org/1625.htm

Information to Review What are ethical behaviors? Being informed Understand your scope of practice Know the client’s rights and take them into consideration when providing care Showing respect Speak to clients with a considerate tone of voice and address with proper title (Mr., Mrs., Ms.) Work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team Use facility equipment according to policy and procedure without waste Being honest Be accountable for your actions and take responsibility Report concerns quickly Report errors or near-miss errors Having moral courage Stand up for what is right, even if no one else is Making decisions Use ethics when making decisions Know the difference between right and wrong

Information to Review What are the most important components/functions of the NA II? Supervision by a nurse is required (As a nursing student, you cannot function as an NA II at clinical and in employment you cannot function as a nursing student) Know your responsibilities; agency policies, procedures, and protocols Communicate verbally (reporting) and in writing (recording/documenting) Maintain technical proficiency: use the correct technique, be organized, do not compromise dexterity for speed

Information to Review Nurse Aide II Registry: Listing and Renewal Completion of the VGCC process will allow you to be submitted for listing on the NA II Registry You must complete the application and pay the listing fee (done via the NC Board of Nursing, not VGCC) Your listing will be valid for 2 years To renew your listing you: Must be listed as a Nurse Aide I on the NC Division of Health Service Regulation-Nurse Aide I Registry with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect or misappropriation of property; Must have performed nursing care activities for monetary compensation within the past 24 months for at least 8 hours under the direct supervision of a RN; Must submit application on or before the last day of your birth month. You will not need to keep your NA II listing current once you obtain your LPN or RN license.

Information to Review If you let your Nurse Aide II listing expire in the past 24 months, you are required to successfully complete the competency evaluation portion of the Nurse Aide II Program to be eligible for renewal. If your Nurse Aide II listing expired in excess of 24 months, you are required to successfully complete a Nurse Aide II Program to be eligible for renewal.
