4 SCOE Guiding Principles As a learning community, SCOE is committed to the following guiding principles. O We collaborate successfully by: O Developing and sharing resources and talent O Encouraging collegiality O Involving stakeholders in decision making processes O Encouraging creativity and problem solving O We support each other by: O Celebrating growth and success O Valuing and respecting diversity O Having trust and confidence in self and others O Maintaining open and reciprocal communication O Treating all people with dignity O We demonstrate leadership by: O Recognizing and utilizing individual skills O Supporting professional growth & development O Encouraging responsible planning and risk taking O Ensuring a safe and secure work environment O Serving as role models O Promoting high expectations and standards

5 Purpose Statement Cabinet is a place to: O Identify organizational challenges and opportunities O Protect and nurture the SCOE culture O Test the mettle of all ideas, requests, and programs through the heat of inquiry O Offer wise counsel to other cabinet members O Engage in reflective conversations O Problem solve O Create synergy O Make decisions quickly/efficiently O Respond to challenges and opportunities nimbly O Create one voice O Offer mutual support O Risk/analyze O Set policy O Identify and develop legislative priorities O Get energized/have fun

6 Chief Administrative Team (CAT) CAT PURPOSE STATEMENT: Leaders within SCOE are charged with two primary responsibilities, which are: O Developing, implementing, and keeping focus on our primary purpose and mission (what we do) O Developing, enhancing, and improving the culture of our organization (how we do what we do) There are multiple purposes to CAT in support of the organization. These purposes include: O Leadership development O Looking out for SCOE’s culture O Sharing information between departments O Identifying threats and opportunities O Enculturation of new leaders O Relationship building in support of our mission O Prevention and proactively responding to challenges O Maintain organizational focus in order to stay mission focused O 5 Cabinet Members O 10 Directors

7 Management Advisory Council (MAC) Purpose Statement MAC members are charged with two primary responsibilities: O To develop, implement, and keep focused on our primary purpose and mission O To develop, enhance, and improve the culture of our organization By attending MAC meetings, we are better prepared to carry out these two primary responsibilities through: O Leadership development O Collaboration and team building O Identifying challenges and opportunities O Identifying solutions and implementing changes O Being knowledgeable by department sharing and SCOE and district updates MAC: O 5 Cabinet Members O 10 Directors O 35 Managers - certificated and classified

10 Impact seen to date Managers state that they feel invested in the organization and valued Managers are spreading the “word, meaning, and use of guiding principles” at their staff meetings … Using an external facilitator is a plus –all levels of management participated equally Building capacity throughout SCOE to grow our own leaders and managers

11 Next Steps Continue professional development activities so as not to lose momentum with current cohorts Develop professional development opportunities for new management hires Support opportunities to empower all employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to build and continue to improve the SCOE culture
