CREATIVITY Rearranging what we know in order to find out what we don’t know. Important element to produce new products/ technologies to promote economic growth Leads to Capital, and creative products are protected by Intellectual Property (IP) laws.

INNOVATION Creativity by Individuals & Teams is a starting point of innovation; first is necessary but not sufficient condition for the second. Term used to refer process by which new ideas created and converted into novel, useful, viable commercial products, services and business practices
4
What’s TePP… Ministry of Science & Tech. Launched “Technopreneur promotion program (TePP)” in 1998-99 jointly operated by DSIR (Dept. of Scientific & Industrial Research) to tap the vast innovative potential of citizens of India. A mechanism to promote individual innovators to become technopreneurs.
5
TePP…Objectives To promote & support untapped creativity of individual innovators To assist the individual innovators to become technology based enterpreneurs To assist the technopreneur in networking and forge linkages with other constituents of the innovation chain for commercialization of their developments.
6
Who can apply? Financial support is provided to selected and screened individual Indian innovators (Engineers, Scientists, Farmers, Artisans, Housewives or Students….virtually anyone) They should have original ideas for converting into working models, prototypes and so on.
7
For Students/ Faculty TePP may not support faculty or students, if the proposal is only for research at institute. Institutes like IIT, which already have their IPR policies on sharing of IP/ revenues etc., TePP may consider supporting faculty/student innovators of these institutes only if they plan to become Techpreneur.
8
Expenditure eligible to be met R&D/engineering consultancy Procurement of small equipment/ tools etc.. Raw material/ accessories (for protoype/ process trials) Fabrication cost (for prototypes) Patent guidance and support Manpower, Testing & Trials, Relevant costs TePP support limited to 90%, 10% to be borne by innovator rent of own house/own accommodation, own salary/stipend, rent of own workshop, salary of assistants etc. are not payable

TePP Project Fund (TPF) considers financial assistance up to Rs. 15.00 lakhs to the short listed innovative and novel proposals on the basis of expert evaluation. Proposals to convert an original idea/invention/know-how into working prototype/process and proposals to demonstrate novel· delivery models to take S& T innovations to rural India can be considered.
10
Categories of Support…contd. Supplementary TePP Fund (STF) up to Rs. 7.50 lakhs to successful TePP innovators, those that have developed products/process at concept proving stage under TePP phase-1, to refine technology for facilitating technology transfer to entrepreneurs. The activities supported are patent filling, testing/ validation, building improved prototype & aesthetic design, preparing technology transfer document. Seamless Scale-up Support for TePP Project (S3T) limited to the financial support of Rs. 45.00 lakhs. Proposals from successful TePP Innovators, those have developed products/process at concept proving stage under TePP phase-1 for I innovations having significant market potential will be considered to facilitate the innovator to turn into an entrepreneur.
11
Eligible Proposals… Proposals from individual innovators to convert an original idealinvention/ know-how into a working prototype/processes. These proposals can be made by individuals or jointly with sponsoring organizations. Related information Proposal(s) having sketchy details/incomplete applications/applications without signature will be rejected. In general, only one proposal from an individual innovator would be considered at a time The proposals, once rejected on technical grounds may not be re-considered. Research proposals pertaining to herbal/ayurvedic formulations may not be supported under TePP.
14
Related Information…contd Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification/rejection of the application. The proposals, where the innovators inherited/possess traditional knowledge on certain herbal/ayurvedic preparation, TePP may consider for supporting such proposals to get the formulation tested at a research institute for their toxicity and efficacy. In case, the results of toxicity and efficacy studies are favourable, then subsequently, such proposals may be considered for process standardization
