6 Service  An MIT Sorority Woman:  started a stroke rehabilitation clinic in Malaysia  raises seeing-eye dogs  volunteers every summer at a camp for children with Muscular Dystrophy  created a magazine about international development  planned the largest student-led Special Olympics event

7 Service  In 2009, MIT sororities raised more than $20,000 for philanthropy  Service Projects  Volunteering at the Cambridge Community Center  Cleaning up the Esplanade  The Giving Tree

14 Risk Management  Hazing is illegal - all MIT sororities have policies prohibiting hazing in any form  Alcohol is not allowed in any of the four chapter houses  The illegal use and abuse of alcohol and controlled substances is not tolerated by MIT’s sororities

15 Finances  Dues vary from chapter to chapter  First semester average dues for Fall 2009: $551.31  Second semester average dues for Spring 2010: $345.33  These are averages of new member dues  Include one-time expenses  Scholarships and payment plans available

16 How can my daughter get involved?  Formal Recruitment  Four day process between orientation and start of classes  Potential New Members visit all sororities and find best fit  Registration available mid-summer at panhel.mit.edu
