2006 ESSA Survey Results 18 Members Responding What we like about ESSA – The people, their warm and helpful attitude and the ability to meet like minded people – The low key leadership and membership ( not a yacht club) – After sail parties – I learned more about sailing by racing – The ability to share and solve boat problems – Sailing, cruising, racing with others – The racing/cruising schedule forces me to use my sailboat
24
Survey—How to Improve ESSA page 1 Increase Awareness in the local community to attract new members Improve “spectator” participation by providing a better understanding of what’s going on during the racing. ( especially in Cambridge) More Social events during and after the season Include some post race cook outs vs. restaurants ( once a month) Include children in at least one event per year ( e.g. “Fun in the Sun”) Field a boat and crew for the Governor’s Cup Race Offer more education opportunities : – Establish a lending library for the North U series on sail trim, racing, Weather for sailors, cruising and seamanship – Utilize our own experts for regular sailing, racing, maintenance seminars – Explanation of the rules of racing – Provide information regarding chartering boats outside of our area
25
How to improve ESSA- Cruising Increase Cruising Opportunities – More Weekend Cruises – Day sailing and afternoon raft ups ( e.g. Sunday afternoons in Oxford or at Roaring Point) – Summer Solstice Sunset evening cruise – Family day cruises, including children – ESSA supplies the burgers “you supply the boat and beverages” day sails
26
ESSA 2006 Goals Improve participation in both fleets Increase the visibility of ESSA to the community Attract new members Achieve a balance between racing and cruising Have a great time sailing
