Graphic Organizer Finding a Mate Individuals are studied and matched. People are free to date/marry anyone they want They are studied and matched for compatibility. They don’t have to be compatible They have to apply for a spouse. Don’t have to apply – but you do have to go through a ceremony Not everyone is worthy of a spouse.

Graphic Organizer How Families Are Created Parents apply for children & a committee decides when they get a child & what child they get. Parents decide when to have children and how many Parents do not produce their own children; instead, children are given to parents at the Ceremony of One. Parents produce their own children Each family is only allowed two children—one boy & one girl. Families can have as many children as they want

Graphic Organizer Mourning Deaths They chant the name of someone who dies going from loud to soft. There is a formal burial ceremony There is eventually a replacement child. There are no “replacement” children For older individuals, there is a celebration of life no one is sad. People are very sad (grieving) when deaths occur

Graphic Organizer How Birthdays Are Celebrated Everyone celebrates their birthday on the same day, in December. Everyone receives the same item on the same day. Members of society don’t keep track of their age beyond 12. The whole society gathers to celebrate.
