4. California Standards Tests (CST) The CST is the California Standards Test. it is a multiple choice test that assesses you on information that you are learning in your classes. It is called the California Standards Test because it is based on the Standards that you are working on in your classrooms. Very similar to the benchmark test that you take in English, Algebra, and Biology.

5. CRANK THAT CST As 9th graders, you will be taking 3 CSTs. You will have an English test, an Algebra or Geometry Test, and an Earth Science test. At USC Hybrid High, our CSTs will begin on May 7th. The test is extremely important because decisions about your future education are made based on how well you do. Most importantly it allows you to show all that you know. Is a Survey test … not appropriate for instructional planning. Individual growth can no longer be measured by this instrument from year to year. Assesses basic skills only for group analysis of strengths and needs.

7. CST SCORES AND THE API After students at a school complete the CSTs their scores are grouped into various levels: Advanced (like getting an A) Proficient (like getting a B) __________________ Basic (like getting a C) Below Basic (like getting a D) Far Below Basic (like getting a F)

8. °Each school also receives a score called the API which stands for Academic Performance Index. °The API is based on how well all the students at a school did on all their tests. Your API is like the school’s progress report/report card °The lowest API is a 200 and the highest is 1000. °A school with really great test scores will be in the 800 range.
