Tutorials, grade check, planner check, career options Thursday, November 12, 2015

Thursday, 11/12 EQ: What are my educational options after high school? Pick up your folder for a grade check and a planner check form. Put your name on your on your planner check form. Take out your planner Upcoming dates… Thursday, 11/12 – tutorials Thursday, 11/12 – must be passing all your classes in order to attend OU trip. Monday, 11/16 – tutorials Wednesday, 11/18 - OU field trip Friday, 11/20 – Thanksgiving feast

Reflection On the back of your TRF rate your group’s performance during tutorials. Specifically how prepared was your group (evidence – 30 second speech, resources, etc.)

Why Service It tells a story beyond numbers. There are National Honor Society requirements.

AVID Service Requirements Minimum of ten service hours per year.

Service reflection What area of service are you interested in? How many hours have you accumulated since August of 2015? Where do you plan to earn your service hours for the remainder of the year? Why?

SAT Sign-Up Create a college board account You must register to take the SAT for the March test Proof of SAT registration is 40% of your semester exam (nobody exempts from an AVID exam)

Exploring Educational Options GHS playoff game on Saturday night at Cowboys Stadium.

Discussion topics Use their four senses to describe the event. Group 1 - what do they see Group 2 - what do you hear Group 3 – What do you smell Group 4 – What can you touch Make a poster representing your discussions.

Event Occupations Describe what occupations/ careers are responsible for creating the experiences on your poster? Example – audio/visual techs provide the support for the monster screen and Cowboys stadium.

Review Educational Options Handout Answer the questions below 1. Why are the educational options presented as a pyramid? 2. What type of institution(s) would you attend to earn Bachelors, masters or doctorate degree? 3. What type of institution(s) would you attend to earn a associates degree or a professional certificate?

Aligning education to Careers Research careers that interest you and determine what type of education is required. Research careers you want to pursue. You must list two careers for each post high school education level (doctorate, masters, bachelor, and associate degrees or technical training.
