Physical Properties A property of matter that can be observed without changing the matters identity.

Examples of Physical Properties Color Length Area Volume Mass Texture Odor

If a person measured the length of something, say a wooden baseball bat,… …it would still be a wooden baseball bat. Its identity does not change just because its length gets measured.

If we cut the bat into little pieces… …cutting would still be considered a physical property, because the wood would still be wood, just in smaller pieces. There is not a new substance created.

If you crush glass… …it is still glass. No new substance is created.

Changing water between solid, liquid and gas is a change of state… …but it is still water. No new substance is created.

Make a list of other properties that you could observe that would not change the makeup of the substance.
