3 Outcomes Outcome 1 Define & explain key concepts as specified in the contents from the areas of study, and apply a range of related mathematical routines and procedures. Outcome 2 Apply mathematical procedures in non-routine contexts, and analyse and these applications of mathematics. Outcome 3 Select and appropriately use technology to develop mathematical ideas, produce results and carry out analysis in situations requiring problem- solving, modelling or investigative techniques or approaches.
4
Your study score 3 SACs (34%) 2 End of Year Exams (66%)

7
Requirements Essential Maths Methods Cas A CAS calculator to be brought to ALL lessons One binder book for class notes Several binder books for completion of set exercises from text book One display folder ( 20 pockets ) for SACs to be submitted by the end of week 2
8
Work strategies The outcome list for each chapter – the MINIMUM number expected. Asking for help –from teachers –from peers Attending Mathematics Homework club on Thursdays Revise unit 1/2 work: all unit 1/2 is assumed Knowledge
9
Useful resources Additional resources: –Revision chapters –Other text books –Cambridge VCE Check points –VCE Study Notes –Past SACs –VCAA past papers Useful links: www.virtualnerd.com
10
Want an ‘S’ not ‘N’? Attend at least 80% of lessons Complete at least 80% set tasks Achieve a “Satisfactory” for each of the three outcomes to get an “S” for the unit
11
Can’t attend a SAC? Need to bring a medical certificate
12
Fail to achieve 40% in an outcome test? Resit Report sent home
13
Fail to complete set work on time Report sent home Work to be presented on an alternative day by negotiation
15
Ex 2A Q9 A group of hikers is to travel x km by bus at an average speed of 48 km/h to an unknown destination. They then plan to walk back along the same route at an average of speed of 4.8 km/h and to arrive back 24 hours after setting out in the bus. If they allow 2 h for lunch and rest, how far must the bus take them?
