1 Making a Difference Ms. Ramos’ 3 rd Grade Class Students Who Care

2 This Week… You will be bringing an idea of a community service project to our school. You want to prove to the school that your community service project is an important project and that you will need to implement the project at our school.

3 The Plan In groups of two, you will create a multi-step action plan for implementing a community service project here at school. You need 5 steps. You will implement your community service plan. You will be evaluated by your classmates and the teacher, based on your findings and effectiveness. You will report your project to the class and possibly other teachers.

4 Day 1 You and your partner will go to the computer lab and search for a community service organization that attracts you. Go to www.google.comwww.google.com ◦ Search for the following keywords:  Volunteer  Community Service  Non-Profit Organizations

5 Day 1 Continued… After you have found your organization write down the name of the organization on a sheet of paper and bring it to your teacher to make sure that the organization is not taken.

6 Day 2 Today you will collect the information about the organization you chose. Your search is not over. Go to www. Google.com and type your organization in the search box. Fill out the information in the form given. You must find at least 3 different websites but 6 different facts. WebsiteFactsOther Important Information

7 Day 3 You are getting closer! Today you be writing all the information that you found from yesterday in a journal. This is not your typical journal. The journal will be a rough draft for your poster. ◦ Draw a poster in your journal and plan out how you would want the poster to look like.

8 Day 3 Continued… The poster must have the following (This can also be known as your “To-Do List”) Organization Name ◦ Names of the people in your group ◦ Date ◦ The 6 (or more) facts and information that you found. ◦ 3 (or more) sources ◦ Pictures that are related to the organization ◦ Statement as to why we need to implement this organization at our school. (At least 1 paragraph)

9 Day 4 Today you will make your poster. Use the rough draft that you made yesterday as a guidance. The poster will be completed by you and your partner. Make sure that you have all the items. Remember your checklist?

12 Day 5 You did it! Today you will present your poster to the class.
