1 The Severe Period: 480- 450 BC simplicity of forms, especially clothes, and absence of decoration; a feeling of heaviness both in the body and the material of the peplos; characters are harmonic and idealised; beauty is conceived as the proportion among the parts; images reflected the forms of dynamism;not static simmetry is broken by the arms; no fixed Archaic smile Sculptors try to express emotions in their works; many works are known through Roman copies made in marble. The Greek originals were in bronze; the bronze is modelled with the technique of the lost wax.
