3 Be a detective! Can you find clues that will help you answer the focus questions?

4 What is a President? He was the sixteenth (16 th ) President of the United States.

5 What reputation did he have? People called him “Honest Abe.”

6 What state was he from? He was born in a log cabin in Kentucky. His home was so small it can fit inside a museum!

7 What state are you sitting in? He was from Kentucky. He worked as a lawyer in Illinois. Illinois Kentucky Map of the United States of America

8 What can you see? What happened to Robinson Crusoe? He taught himself to read! One book he read was Robinson Crusoe.

9 What do you know about slaves or slavery? He proclaimed (said) that slaves should be free people. Many people were angry at him because of this.

10 What can you learn about the Civil War from this image? He was President during the Civil War. He fought this war to keep the states united.
