2. Verb Phrases  A verb is a word that expresses action or state of being.  There are 3 classifications of verbs: 1. Helping Verbs (be, am, is, are, was, were, been, has, have, had, do, does, did, may, can, must, might, would, could, should, shall, will, being) 2. Action Verbs (bark, throw, run, etc.) 3. Transitive & Intransitive Verbs  A verb phrase uses action and helping verbs to complete a sentence.

3. 11/25/13 Bellringer Identify the verb phrase in each of the following sentences. Write the verb phrases on your paper. (You do not need to write the sentence) Example: “We are going to Arizona this summer.” 1. The forest has attracted visitors. 2. Its beauty has captured their imaginations. 3. Visitors can see the Painted Desert from here. 4. The colors of the desert do not remain the same. 5. Have you ever seen a piece of petrified wood?

4. 11/26/13 Bellringer Identify the verb phrase in each of the following sentences. Write the verb phrases on your paper. (You do not need to write the sentence) Example: “We are going to Arizona this summer.” 1. A guide will explain the process. 2. Visitors can purchase the wood as a souvenir. 3. Tours of the forest are not recommended for amateur hikers. 4. Hikes must be arranged with park rangers. 5. You can eat lots of turkey over the Thanksgiving Break.

5. Bellringer Checks  Make sure your name is on the bellringers  Make sure your team name is on the bellringers.  Make sure each bellringer is labeled.  Make sure you turn the bellringers into the in-box.
