Nova Scotia`s Land and Sea
Nova Scotia`s land borders along 4 large bodies of water. Atlantic Ocean Gulf of St. Lawrence Northumberland Strait Bay of Fundy

Region..... Nova Scotia is made up of the Appalachian Region.
It has high, rocky areas called uplands and lower-lying areas called lowlands. There are many rivers, lakes and think forests that are home to beavers, deer, porcupines and bears.

Nova Scotia Weather The weather changes often in Nova Scotia.
The summers are mostly sunny and warm, but cooler near the coasts. This is because the cold waters of the Atlantic help to cool the air. The winter often brings fierce snow storms called .... Nor`Easters. Fog is also very common especially in spring and early summer.

Nova Scotia`s Natural Resources
Nova Scotia`s natural resources such as trees, minerals, animals and soil have played an important role in its economy, its culture and its past.

Fertile Lowlands The many small lowlands have good fertile soil for farming. The Annapolis Valley has nutrient- rich soil good for growing fruit, especially apples. Dairy and poultry are also important to Nova Scotia`s agriculture.

The Ocean`s riches.... Being surrounded by water means that Nova Scotian`s take advantage of the sea`s bounty. Nova Scotia is the world`s biggest lobster exporter. The other main catches include: haddock, cod, mackerel and halibut. The fishing industry provides jobs on fishing boats and processing plants.

Mineral mining Some of Nova Scotia`s most important resources are from underground (limestone, quartz, coal, marble and gravel) Nova Scotia is the world`s biggest producer of gypsum .

Manufacturing Many Nova Scotians today work in manufacturing, making goods that are exported to other places such as processing plants and pulp and paper mills.

Service with a Smile Nova Scotia is well known for it`s hospitality in tourism. Over 1 million visitors are drawn to NS each year. Cape Breton Island is Nova Scotia`s jewel with its scenic routes and cultural traditions.
