doc.: IEEE 802.15-09-0121-00-004g Submission ETRI March 2009 Slide 4 AMR Market in Korea In the private market –the deployment of AMR systems is common –Nearly all newly constructed apartment buildings are equipped with AMR system –Typically deployed using RS-485, and some companies are piloting PLC technology In the public market –KEPCO dominates the electricity meter reading market with over 50% market share –KEPCO began a trial in the public electricity market in the late 1990’s and has already completed a CDMA based AMR deployment to customers having over 22,000 volts –KEPCO has been piloting a full range of AMR technologies to low- voltage markets for several years

doc.: IEEE 802.15-09-0121-00-004g Submission ETRI March 2009 Slide 8 Wireless Networking for UIS If SUN covers geographically widespread communications to a large number of outdoor devices, gateway to backbone networks can be replaced with SUN. –Now the legacy LAN or CDMA based solution is used between gateway and backbone network. Coverage : dense or long distance networks Costly If SUN provides bandwidth flexibility (cf. at least 40 kbps but not more than 1000 kbps in PAR), the service flexibility increases –Text, low quality still image services –High quality multimedia services
