Make the fight against cancer a top national priority –Protect funding for research at NIH –Protect funding for CDC cancer prevention and screening programs and the Prevention and Public Health Fund –Co-sponsor HR 6155/S 3407 and HR 6157, that will improve the quality of life for cancer patients and provide them with better access to palliative care services and coordinated care Funding the war on cancer

Sequestration –Mandatory budget cuts to domestic programs effective Jan. 1 –NIH - $2.5 billion cut $400 million cut to cancer research –CDC – 8.2 percent cut If NBCCEDP takes 8.2% cut – result will be 50,000 less women screened –Medicare would be cut by more than $11.6 billion over 10 years starting in January Funding the war on cancer

Patient Centered Quality Care for Life Act –Amend the Public Health Service Act to address the symptoms and needs of patients with chronic disease –Building blocks to de-fragment patient care by treating pain and other symptoms of chronic disease Quality of Life legislative initiatives

Palliative Care Education & Hospice Training Act –Amend the Public Health Service Act to increase the number of permanent faculty in palliative care at accredited medical schools, nursing schools and other programs, to promote education in palliative care and hospice, and to support the development of faculty careers in academic palliative medicine Quality of Life legislative initiatives
