3 Introduction  Vietnam is in southeast Asia and the capital is Hanoi.  Vietnam is heavily populated, home to 89.71 million people.  This country is known for its bustling cities, beaches, rives and historical land marks from it places of worship to its museums.

4 Rice: Lúa g ạ o  Rice is the number one export in Vietnam.  Rice is the stapler diet of this country. The “rice bowl” has assured food security to its population whose daily calories are met by rice.  Rice is grown on paddy field in warm and humid climate. Steps to farm rice

5 Traditional Garment: Áo Dài The áo dài is a tight fitting silk tunic worn over pants. Inspired by Paris fashion as a modern dress in the 1920s- 30s Áo translated means piece of clothing worn on the upper body like a shirt. Dài means long. Traditionally worn at school, in offices and on celebrations

6 Traditional Food  Vietnamese has distinctive favours. Common ingredients includes fish sauce “ Nước mắm ”.  Traditional Vietnamese food is Ph ở  Vietnamese cuisine is consider one of the healthiest cuisine around the world since in is low in trans fat

7 Places to Visit  Hanoi Opera House: is an opera house in central Hanoi, erected by French colonial administration from 1901 to 1911.  Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica: is an cathedral located downtown of Saigon. Establish by French colonist and was constructed between 1863- 1880.  Hoàn Ki ế m Lake: is a lake in the historical center of Hanoi. Hoàn Ki ế m Lake translated means “ Lake of the restored sword”

8 Holidays  T ế t Nguyên Đán : Or” Vietnamese New Year” is the celebration of the arrival of spring, based on the lunar calendar which usually falls in January or February.  T ế t Trung thu: “Mid – Autumn Festival” is a children celebration which celebrate the moon. Children world usually run around carrying lanterns and would play games with one another.

9 40 Years After The Fall of Saigon  It has been 40 years since the Vietnam war was over in 1975, when the last American helicopter left the roof top of Saigon.  It has been 40 years since over 2 million people fled Vietnam via sea and land, seeking for freedom from communism.  It has been 40 years since my family, soldiers for the Republic of Vietnam where sent to reeducation camps.  It has been 40 years that my people lost there beloved country and hope on April 30 th 1975. Thank you Canada!!!
