Early Life Mario Andretti was born Feburary 28, 1940. He was born in Montana, Italy. Mario had a twin brother Aldo.

Reasons End of World War II brought changes to the family when their town became a part of Communist Yugoslavia. The family left quickly to a refugee camp where they lived for seven years.

Emigration Mario Andretti immigrated to the USA in 1955. He moved to Nazareth in Pennsylvania’s. He became a US citizen in 1964.

Racing Mario and his twin brother was interested in car racing before moving to the US. Mario continued his passions for racing once he moved to the US. Mario took a job in his uncle’s garage and began racing stock cars at a near by track.

Mario claimed early wins his first season racing. Mario could not be slowed down, his father did not like the racing. Mario found sprint and midget car races and often won them.

In 1961, he joined the United Racing Club, racing midgets in the east. In 1964, he became a member of the U.S. Auto Club, and started competing in the country’s best races. In his first Indianapolis 500 race he took third place and was named Rookie of the year.

In 1967 he won the Daytona 500. In mid 1970’s his attention was on Formula One racing, 1978 became the pinnacle of his career he became the second American to win the sports world championship.

In his five-decade career he made himself on of the best car racing drives. He won three Drive of the Year Awards, and he was the only driver to win Daytona 500, Indy 500 and the Formula One titles. In 1994, he retired with more than $11 million in winnings. He has been inducted into many halls of fame and was named Drive of the Century by the Associated Press and Racer magazine.
