3 Latest ERDF news DCLG staff appraising 292 applications from March round of project calls worth £635 million Contracting of successful applications set to start from November / December and continue through to March / April 273 applications from July / August round of calls are being assessed, with a combined value of £559 million DCLG will be inviting full applications from around the end of 2015 for this round of calls The next round of calls are set to be published on the funding finder during w/c 27 November - work is starting on consultations with partners on their content Further rounds of ERDF calls are currently scheduled for April, July and October 2016

5 Other things Deadline for LEPs to submit revised ESIF strategies 27 November – has yours changed? New E-CLAIMS system roll out set to commence early December - will be used for both ERDF and ESF Comparison of current LEP Area ESIF committee meetings schedule with proposed approach & work – will send out document

6 ESIF driving policy Devolution deals seeing localities demand greater control of ESIF funding Cornwall already granted Intermediate Body status, others to follow IB status means responsibility for deciding whether project fits strategically with local economic needs and opportunities Combined Authorities can now be local ‘Opt-Ins’ ‘Skills’ being included in many devo deals Spending Review will impact but how?

7 Smart Specialisation Life Sciences and Health (and role of AHSNs) specifically mentioned in England strategy Smart Specialisation Hub to be set up shortly – should be NHS/AHSN rep on that forum Review implementation of the Strategy for England Focus and provide strategic advice to the GPB on the performance of the Thematic Objective of ‘Research, Development & Innovation’. Provide the GPB with specialist advice and expertise on Smart Specialisation issues. Monitor the application and delivery of the Smart Specialisation Strategy in England Undertake analysis into specific thematic/policy related issues on behalf of the GPB, and report findings back to the GPB.

13 The Innovation Pathway – Key Messages A suite of bespoke, cohesive services covering the entire lifecycle of innovation that will assist both NHS Organisations and SMEs to exploit their innovations A concept delivered by the AHSN and multiple Partner Organisations including NHS organisations. This approach is truly unique The AHSN hopes this will become the recognised vehicle for supporting innovation in the healthcare arena, within the region and beyond Some services are supported using ERDF funding and potentially ESIF, going forward

18 Ideas, Intellectual Property, and Markets ESIF Programme – The Innovation Pathway 1 st October 2015 to 30 th September 2017 Accountable body – RTC North £500k match funding provided by the AHSN Total £2.02 million ESIF Programme £490k match funding from SME contributions Combination of NHS Innovations North and Health Network North ERDF Programmes Grant Exemplar funding for SMEs – maximum grant £20k, 40% match required by the SME Targets: 150 SMEs to be assisted – no job creation targets Issue: Funding only for the North East LEP area – need to ensure that SMEs are in the correct geographical area

20 Clinical Trials and Evidence Proposed ESIF Programme Connected Health Cities £20 million fund across the Northern Powerhouse region £4m application for North East North Cumbria AHSN Focus upon the connecting of big data £250k proposed each year towards ESIF Programme Enable SMEs to get clinical support from the NHS NHS England Test Bed If successful, element of this funding to be used as part of the above ESIF Programme

22 Grand Challenge Part of the Strategic Economic Plan for the North East LEP £20 million Challenge - £10m ESIF Funds, £10m match required Health themed Catalytic based competition NEQOS Surveillance Report – Health Outcomes for the region HES data being mapped with skills and economic data sets ESIF call expected to launch in January / February 2015 Health Grand Challenge Competition Call – launch in Summer 2015 AHSN to apply for facilitator role – some project management costs AHSN acts as the honest broker and will not apply for monies through the call
