Tree grows 20’ tall, 15-20’ wide Flower buds set in fall are pointed Flowers in Spring (May) blooms 2-3 weeks after Cornus florida White or pink bracts very pointed, not rounded like Cornus florida 4 bracts are long taper-pointed 2” across Flowers are not stalked Fruit fall red

Fruit is not smooth as in Cornus florida Cornus kousa fruit is red and resembles a rasberry, ½ diameter Bark on trunk exfoliates Cornus kousa has brown flower buds that are very pointed Leaf is more pointed than Cornus florida Leaf tends to “leather” texture Veins are almost all opposite at midrib of leaf With age branches become very horizontal Zones 5-8
