Goals of Realignment Group similar programs, departments and disciplines together to address common issues, share curriculum and resources, develop programs, maximize capabilities, minimize duplication and work under common leadership Capitalize on trends and opportunities that have emerged in recent years –Health-related programs –STEM programs –Management programs –SOE

Goals of Realignment, cont. Align programs with a structure that will strengthen UW-Stout’s mission and polytechnic identity Develop a structure that is more descriptive and understandable to internal and external audiences Provide a coordinated approach to interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts: –Curriculum Incubation Center –FYE; Learning Communities –Project Lead the Way; University Honors Program –Joint appointments; Team teaching –Faculty and student research initiatives

Guiding Principles No programs, individuals or outreach units will be eliminated as a result of the realignment Individuals will not be jeopardized relative to personnel issues (renewal, tenure, etc.) Structure will include program directors, department chairs and deans The realignment is not being driven by budget concerns although costs will be analyzed for each model There will be no immediate space implications

Timeline Realignment principles developed by the Senates Spring 2007 White paper and models developed by Provost and Deans Discussion at Strategic Planning Group Retreat Summer 2007 Campus-wide discussion and input Fall 2007 New model finalized January 2008 New model implemented July 2008
