NUCLEAR HALF LIFE
2
T ½ The half life is the amount of time it takes for half of the atoms in a sample to decay. The half life for a given isotope is always the same it doesn't depend on how many atoms you have or on how long they've been sitting around.always the same

the half life of beryllium-11 is 13.81 seconds. Let's say you start with 16 grams of 11 Be. Wait 13.81 seconds, and you'll have 8 grams left; the rest will have decayed. Another 13.81 seconds go by, and you're left with 4 grams of 11 Be; 13.81 seconds more, and you have 2 grams... you get the idea? Half Life simulation

Calculation Practice Problems How much of a 100 g sample of 198 Au is left after 8.10 days if its half life is 2.70 days? 50 g If one half life is 2.70 days how much is left? T ½ = 2.70 days If three half lives is 8.10 days how much is left (our answer) ? If two half lives is 5.4 days how much is left now? 25 g 12.5 g

A 50 g sample of N-16 decays to 12.5 g in 14.4 seconds. What is its half life?
