Objectives: The students will be able to make inferences about a character’s motivation. The students will be able to synthesize at least 2 sources from an informational text. The students will be able to make predictions about what they will read.

Focus Lesson: “Internment” Review: synthesizing sources: p. 231 Pre-read “Internment” starting on p. 238. Predict the main idea. In small groups, read pp. 238-240 aloud. Each group will be responsible for taking 3 QNTs. Closing: what have you learned about (in)tolerance?

Focus Lesson: “Peace…” Review: synthesizing sources: p. 231 Pre-read “Peace Isn’t Impossible” starting on p. 236. Predict the main idea. Setting: Ireland In small groups, read pp. 236-7 aloud. Each group will be responsible for taking 3 QNTs.

Homework: “Peace…” Write a thesis statement for an essay you might write on the importance of getting along.
