PARAGRAPH Writing a Paragraph: Writing is an essential form of communication Effective writers are able to write Focused Clear Thoughtful Paragraphs are the basic building block in becoming an effective writer and a great place to start our writing workshop.

FORMAL PARAGRAPH Formal Paragraph: Usually written with a formal level of language Written for different purposes: Essays Cover letters Textbooks Gain reader's confidence Deliver serious material Formal writing is often written in the third person It uses the words: He She They Avoids contractions uses does not instead of doesn't).

INFORMAL PARAGRAPH Informal Paragraph: A writer may use informal language in a Journal entry Character's dialogue Letter to a friend Informal language may use the first person (I, me my, we, etc.) May use contractions. Informal language may also use slang.

DESCRIPTIVE WRITTING Descriptive Writing: Used to describe an image or feeling to the reader. When writing a descriptive passage, the writer uses Clear imagery Specific words to the reader Precise description The writer attempts to create a picture in the Reader's mind Make reader feel emotion to the description
