(January 2010) 15 billion images on Facebook—550,000 images uploaded every day. “We are all being watched.” – Robert Frank Which begs the question: Is any action meaningful when everything is being watched. What’s the point of sending someone to Haiti when someone there has a camera phone?

3 THE BLOGOSPHERE Everything is interesting, but what’s important. If we all create content—if we are all journalists, photographers, film makers—then what makes our content more important, more powerful than everyone else’s? Who is important in the creation of the content— the subjects, the viewers, or the creators?

5 FREE THOUGHTS? On the one hand, information wants to be expensive, because it’s so valuable. The right information in the right places can change/save lives. On the other hand, information wants to be free, because the cost of manufacturing it and distributing it is plummeting. So you have these two fighting against each other. But are they really in opposition? Abundant information wants to be free. Scarce information wants to be expensive—What does Anderson mean by that? Can you create a business model that combines these two ideas?

9 BLOG ASSIGNMENT Choose an exercise: Rule of thirds Framing Metaphor Extreme close-up Shoot a photo using one or more of these “rules” and post to your blog. It can be relevant to your blog or potentially something you are considering for your final news story or video.

10 FEB. 9, 2010 Sava’s on State Capturing audio and video in difficult environments. We will be holding class in a restaurant so you can have the experience of capturing audio in loud environments. You will have people to interview for audio and video. We will discuss interview techniques, preparations for interviews. We will discuss setting up interview subjects and using the exercises learned on Feb. 2 in video. We will learn how to upload audio and video to websites.
