Anatomical Terms Anatomical Position: –All descriptions of the body start with the assumption that the body is in the anatomical position. –Standing, face forward, palms outward. I’m Naked!

Anatomical Terms Planes: –Midline: Down the center of the body. –Mid-axillary: Vertically from armpit to ankle. –Mid-claviclar (2): Through the center of the clavicle and nipple. Midline Mid- clavicular That’s better

Anatomical Terms Proximal: –closer to torso. Distal: –away from torso. Palmer: –palm of the hand. Planter: –sole of the foot Torso Proximal Distal Palmer Planter

Anatomical Terms Abdominal quadrants: –RUQ –LUQ –RLQ –LLQ know organs in each quadrant. “I feel transparent today”

Positional Terms Supine: –lying on back, face up. Prone: –lying on abdomen, face down. Lateral recumbent: –lying on side also known as the recovery position. Fowler’s position: –sitting on stretcher with head elevated 45 to 60 degrees. Trendelenberg: –lying with head slightly lower than the feet. –Used to treat shock.
