Sold to Potiphar Genesis 39:1-6 Joseph was sold to Potiphar in Egypt –He was an Egyptian commander of the royal bodyguard –These men carried out executions for Pharaoh God blessed Potiphar’s household because of Joseph –Potiphar did not concern himself with anything that went on in the house –Potiphar just ate his meals and left the rest to Joseph

Trouble with Potiphar’s Wife Genesis 39:6b-10 Joseph was “handsome in form and appearance” Potiphar’s wife tried to entice him daily Joseph refused because: –His master placed great trust in him –He could not sin against God

Flee Sexual Immorality Genesis 39:11-12 At last, she found a day when no one else was in the house –She caught his coat and asked him to lie with her Joseph ran away, leaving his coat in her hand –“Flee sexual immorality” – 1 Corinthians 6:18; Proverbs 4:14-18 –Paul also warned Timothy – 2 Timothy 2:22

Imprisoned Though Innocent Genesis 39:13-20 Potiphar’s wife lied about him –She told the servants Joseph tried to lie with her and claimed he fled when she cried out –She said he left his coat beside her –She repeated the lie to Potiphar Potiphar cast Joseph into prison God protected Joseph –As he will all his faithful – 1 Corinthians 10:13 –He was placed in a prison for the king’s prisoners

God Protected Joseph in Prison Genesis 40:1-23 God caused the keeper to look favorably on Joseph and he was given authority Pharaoh’s chief butler and baker were put in prison Each had a dream which Joseph interpretted –The butler would be restored in 3 days –The baker would die in 3 days –The butler promised to remember Joseph to Pharaoh –Joseph remained in prison though the butler was restored to his position
