Perceived Need for Collaboration Capacity-building: many workers need paced upskilling Healing: Workers need academic reflection to process the horrific nature of issues they face We need to design what we collectively want and market it to an academic institution for a partnership –Occasionally our attempts to get courses from extant institutions have been successful but inadequate responses - they control processes –We have most of the building blocs between us –We have enough qualified faculty between us –We have sufficient personnel to almost make it viable Field-based: low cost, accessible in Asia and Latin America, mostly web-based, with yearly gatherings, accredited Can be done 1 course per quarter, plus 6 months full time furloughs? plus project, all over 5 years?

Team/Resources Presently Asuza Pacific Global Studies is pursuing discussions (click working paper below) –I have explored this with 9 other possible schools. Asuza has had the best response –Rich Slimbach has credibility within the structure is generally compatible with our shared theologies –an accredited university entrepreneurial environment They have done similar with the ESL programs Resources Needed –requires cohorts of 22 people, initial cohort of 15 –email, web equipment needed by participants –locations in Brazil, UK, Chiang Mai and LA? Click for Details Instructions: Delete sample document icon and replace with working document icons as follows: Create document in Word. Return to PowerPoint. From Insert Menu, select Object… Click “Create from File” Locate File name in “File” box Make sure “Display as Icon” is checked. Click OK Select icon From Slide Show Menu, Select Action Settings. Options Analysis We all have some prefield and basic programs –Do we want to mesh forces at a level beyond these? Other Options –Secular programs in development –Ray Bakke is developing an M Div program with Asian Theological Seminary too high a level –Eastern Baptist has an training program in economic development not churchplanting centered –New Covenant in New Zealand has what we need an undergrad 4 year full time program, but distance is a problem –Kevin Dyson’s network may be able to provide what we need –Multiple partnerships between schools should be explored, one school needs to take the lead –There are other urban schools none seem to comprehensively meet our needs, all are helpful very few train churchplanters –To be viable will have to mesh with CCDA in the US Instructions: Delete sample document icon and replace with working document icons as follows: Create document in Word. Return to PowerPoint. From Insert Menu, select Object… Click “Create from File” Locate File name in “File” box Make sure “Display as Icon” is checked. Technology New technology being used –after first time each course has being taught, it be developed as web-based with video content clips from classes development of this is expensive and requires institutional backing –web cam linkup will make professor -student dialogue viable –international phone costs have become negligible Limits to technology –courses need to be designed around group interaction –initial and yearly gatherings of each group are essential to sustain momentum to sustain story-telling basis for learning modules Instructions: Delete sample document icon and replace with working document icons as follows: Create document in Word. Return to PowerPoint. From Insert Menu, select Object… Click “Create from File” Locate File name in “File” box Make sure “Display as Icon” is checked. Click OK Select icon From Slide Show Menu, Select Action Settings. Click “Object Action” and select “Edit” Click OK

Political Questions Do we the people, want to work on something like this together? –Is it a need? –12 course British or 20 course US system? –MA or BA? –When would it be sufficient need to warrant the resources? –How much time can out people put into study while in ministry? –Can it be done with another third world partner better? –Can we build sufficient trust and working relationship to enable it? –How do we balance the control of the academic institution on content and personnel to keep it on track to meeting our needs Instructions: Delete sample document icon and replace with working document icons as follows: Create document in Word. Return to PowerPoint. From Insert Menu, select Object… Click “Create from File” Locate File name in “File” box Make sure “Display as Icon” is checked.
