HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS Students in the UW-Madison/UW-Whitewater Cooperative Program can complete their entire program by attending courses on the UW- Whitewater campus only. Each fall and spring semester, UW-Madison teaches one class on the UW-Whitewater campus. UW-Whitewater offers cooperative program courses each fall, spring and summer. Students can enroll in as many or a few courses as they desire each term. A minimum of 15 credits of the program are UW-Madison courses. The remaining courses are UW-Whitewater courses. Students also have the option of completing the UW-Madison course equivalent any of the UW-Whitewater course requirement s on the UW-Madison campus.

APPLYING FOR ADMISSION APPLICATION IS MADE TO BOTH UW-WHITEWATER AND UW-MADISON 1) Apply to UW-Whitewater as a special, non-degree seeking student via the Graduate School at UW-Whitewater. Check with UW- Whitewater Graduate School http://www.uww.edu/gradstudies/ to determine their admission process. http://www.uww.edu/gradstudies/ 2) Apply for admission to UW- Madison as a degree seeking student. NOT YET ADMITTED TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL AT UW-MADISON BUT WANT TO TAKE CLASSES BEFORE BEING ADMITTED AS A GRADUATE STUDENT CONSIDER ENROLLING AS A SPECIAL STUDENT AT UW-MADISON http://elpa.education.wisc.edu/elpa/admissions/special-student-status-admission UW-Madison will accept up to six credits of UW-Madison course work completed as a special student at UW-Madison, however, cooperative program students need to be aware of the minimum graduate credit requirement imposed by the UW-Madison Graduate School. Cooperative program students are required to complete a minimum of 15 graduate level credits of UW- Madison course work as part of the 30 credits required at UW-Madison for a Master’s degree. Should you want to begin taking UW-Madison courses before being officially admitted as a graduate student, you can do so, however, if a student does not meet the 15 graduate credit requirement above, but has completed special student credits, the department can petition the Graduate School to convert up to 6 credits to graduate credits. You would then pay the different between special student and graduate credits.

WHEN TO APPLY TO UW-Madison Admission to the program is considered three times a year. When considering which application deadline is appropriate, keep in mind you need admission as a graduate student at UW-Madison for the semester you intend on enrolling in UW-Madison classes, whether they be UW-Madison classes taught on the UW-Whitewater or UW-Madison campus. December 1 summer or fall admission July 1 fall admission November 1 spring admission

Office of Student Financial Aid http://www.finaid.wisc.edu/ Financial aid is granted by UW-Madison as UW-Madison is the degree granting university. To be eligible for financial aid students must be enrolled at least half-time. Half-time enrollment is 4 credits. Students do not need to be enrolled in a UW-Madison class to seek financial aid, however, if not enrolled in 4 credits of UW-Madison course work, need to verify their UW-Whitewater enrollment via a consortium agreement.
