The 6th Commandment We’ve all attended weddings before, either of a family member or a friend. During the wedding ceremony, the bride and groom make specific promises to each other.

The 6th Commandment As we study the 6th commandment, we’ll see how fitting it is to make those promises in the wedding service.

The Lord instituted marriage in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:22-24 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. Matthew 19:3-6 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?“ "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,‘ and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

Malicious Desertion The desertion does not have to be a physical leaving. It is a desertion of the marriage. The desertion is of such a nature that it marks the person as an unbeliever.

In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
