Making Decisions Being in Control Good decision- is a decision in which you have carefully considered the outcome of each choice Personal responsibility- is to accept how your decision will affect yourself and other people. Value, Character, and Decisions Values- are beliefs that you consider to be of great importance Character- is the way that people think, feel, and act.

Influences on your Decisions Your family is a major influence Influence-is a force that affects your choices when you have a decision to make Your peers are an important influence Other Influences on your decisions Evaluate your influences

Examining Your Decisions Weighing the Consequences of Decisions Consequences- is the result of an action that you take Precaution- is an action to avoid negative consequences. Practice makes perfect

Refusal Skills Say “No” Refusal Skills- are different ways of saying no to things that you don’t want to do. Plan Ahead Have a support system Support System- is made up of family members and friends who will stand by you and will encourage you when times get hard.

Your Changing Mind/Feelings Development of Mental Abilities Abstract though- thought about ideas that are beyond what you see or experience Development of Behavior Mood swings Attraction to others Belonging Independence Responsibility Peer Groups and Cliques

Preparing for the Future Discovering your interests Extracurricular Activities- activities that you do that aren’t part of your schoolwork Elective classes- are classes that you can choose to take for a grade but are not required. Getting Organized Your schoolwork Planning for your future
