Introduction Who is our target audience? Facebook users, especially those who are addicted to it Where do we feel the problem is getting more serious? Worldwide, especially among the younger generation What do we want to do? Curb the problem & highlight the importance of curbing addiction to Facebook

Introduction When do we feel the problem should be tackled? Tackle the problem before it slips out of hand; nip it in the bud Which aspect do we feel is affected by over usage of Facebook? Social ability of its users and time spent physically with family and friends Why do we want to do this? Reduce the number of users whose social lives have been affected by over usage of Facebook. How do we hope to achieve our aim? Get to the root of this problem and find various ways to solve the problem to cater to most users

Purpose of Study Facebook is a popular social networking site that has many boons and banes More users are becoming addicted to it, affecting the users’ ability to socialize with others face-to-face This may affect the society on a large scale is something is not done

Methodology A survey was conducted on a group of 25 people, aged 13 and above to find out The results were plotted and compared according to the gender, education level and whether they are Facebook users An interview was conducted with Ms Jaime, the school counsellor, to get her opinions on Facebook addiction.

Survey Findings

Survey Findings Best solutions on curbing Facebook addiction (as provided by the interviewees) Encourage people to create more events for meeting up with family and friends so that there can be more face-to-face interaction Create an application that lets you set a time limit for accessing Facebook so that once time is up, you will automatically log out Self-discipline and time management

Interview findings According to Ms Jaime, the school counsellor, age might influence how users use Facebook and the way users think of Facebook The younger generation might create a Facebook account just because they want to fit in with others The older generation, who did not have Facebook in their time, feel curious about what it is and therefore want to create a Facebook account

Interview findings Ms Jaime, who belongs to the older generation, feels that Facebook has both positive and negative impacts on her Positive She was able to find her old friends on Facebook She was able to find out what her friends are doing and try out more interesting stuff Negative Sometimes, she wasted a lot of time on Facebook doing useless things like poking, thus she wasted a lot of time Also, she felt tired after that and thus did not want to do any work, therefore wasting the rest of the day

Conclusion We found out from the survey that: A user’s level of education does not affect the number of hours he or she spends on Facebook Spending a lot of time on Facebook does not necessarily mean addiction to Facebook Thinking of Facebook even when you are offline will decrease the physical interaction with friends or family

Conclusion We learnt that: Facebook might not necessarily affect your social life negatively, it can affect it positively too, as long as you use it in the right way For example: Use Facebook as a learning platform by playing games like pet society, where you learn good life skills on how to care for a pet and responsibility. Remind others of important things like homework or announcements or educational websites or interesting quizzes which will benefit all of us

Conclusion We learnt that: Have enough time for other activities and Facebook at the same time, as long as you manage your time wisely – have enough time for your studies, work or revision etc. Spending a lot of time does not mean addiction to Facebook But spending too much time on it without maintaining a balance among different aspects is wrong

Conclusion Facebook has both positive and negative impacts on the users depending on how the user uses it Positive Impacts Catch up with their friends and the latest gossip Upload photos and videos Stay connected with their loved ones and friends all around the world Negative Impacts Neglecting and avoiding their friends and family and instead of spending quality time with them Deterioration of his/her health Diminish people's communication skills

Conclusion All in all… Facebook is not a bad thing if you have self discipline and manage your time well Facebook can help us with daily activities like remembering birthdays and catching up with your friends A good way to relax your mind after a hectic day but too much of a good thing becomes bad Conscious of the time spent on Facebook so as to prevent addiction to Facebook since it is better safe than sorry
