6. Read the following passage: When the Pilgrims landed in November of 1620 in what is now Massachusetts, they needed to provide themselves food and shelter if they were to survive. There were no stores and markets for buying things, and no houses for the Pilgrims to move into. They had to meet their own needs, and even the smallest hands contributed to that effort. The Pilgrims overcame many hardships to establish a colony. The winter was long and cold, and much work had to be done for spring planting. Their hard work had to be done for spring planting.
