4 Table Saw Safety Use either the miter guide or the fence, but never both at the same time. Make sure the guard is down. If wood pinches, hold down tight and turn saw off. Do not stand in line with the blade. Do not push wood with fingers in line with blade.

5 Table Saw Safety Continued Wait until blade stops before removing stock. Blade should be ¼”-1/2” above the stock. Use push sticks when necessary. Both hands should always be on the same side of the blade when cutting stock.

8 Band Saw & Scroll Saw Safety Keep a 3” safety margin. Do not force wood through. Use relief cuts on sharp curves. Never have fingers in a direct line with the blade. Remove scrap after blade has stopped moving.

9 Band Saw & Scroll Saw Safety Continued If a blade breaks, turn off machine and wait for the instructor. Adjust the guard/ guide so it is ¼” above the wood. Never stand to the right of the band saw when it is in use. If the blade were to break it flips to the right of the machine.

11 Surface Planer Safety Wood must be 12” long. Run wood through with the grain only. Keep fingers back from table. Do not get fingers pinched between the stock and the table. Only surface plane a 1/16” each time through the planer.

13 Jointer Safety Stock must be 10” long or longer. Run stock through with the grain only. Do not run wood through fast. Use a slow constant speed. Keep wood tight against the fence. Do not stand directly behind the wood. Do not drape fingers down the sides of the wood. Use a push stick when necessary.

15 Radial Arm Saw Safety Hold on to saw when starting to prevent blade from moving forward. Keep hands out of path of blade. Make sure clamps are in place and locks are tight. Hold stock tight against the fence. Return saw to rear of table after each cut.

16 Radial Arm Saw Safety Continued Do not adjust any dials when the machine is on. When ripping, make sure the blade rotates in an upwards direction and towards the operator. The blade must extend into the table 1/8 th of an inch.

18 Compound Miter Saw Always keep guards in place. Always secure your work piece to the fence or table using clamps. Let the saw reach full speed before you start cutting your work piece. Keep hands and fingers at least four inches from saw’s path.

20 Drill Press Safety Keep hair, loose jewelry, and loose clothing away from the chuck. NEVER leave the chuck key in the chuck. Always clamp your work to the table. Keep a 3” safety margin with the chuck.

21 Reminders You must pass the safety test with a 100%. You will retake the test until you pass with a 100%. The first score you receive will be the score that will be recorded in the grade book.
