Small square stones or tiles used in ancient Roman mosaics A plane tessellation is a pattern made up of one or more shapes, completely covering a surface with no gaps or overlaps Occur in nature - honeycombs

Tessellations Some shapes, or polygons, will tessellate and others will not. They can be created easily using squares, equilateral triangles, and hexagons.

Make Your Own Draw three 1/2 faces on the inside edges of one triangle. The faces should all be different All three faces should face in a different direction

Make Your Own Darken your lines with a pen Fold your paper in half
Trace your faces onto the second triangle Should be an exact copy

Practice laying out your design before you glue Glue shapes down carefully
