MAP Proctor Guidelines
As a parent or guardian, you will serve as the student’s proctor for the MAP test. Explain to your child that the test is designed to find out which skills he or she has been taught and has learned so far. The result of each question determines what question will be presented next. If a student keeps answering questions correctly, the test gives that student harder and harder questions. This is the way the test is designed. There will be some questions that your child does not know how to answer. No student will be able to answer every question correctly. Proctors should prepare the testing environment to ensure that the child will be comfortable during testing and not be exposed to distractions. Students will need scratch paper and a pencil for the math section. A pop-up calculator is provided in the test; handheld calculators are not permitted. During testing, proctors should stay close enough to be sure everything is going well, but far enough away to avoid crowding the student and resist the temptation of giving hints.
