Overview Introduction Background Tools needed Features How Jericho can be used Implications for the future My review of Jericho
3
Introduction Jericho is a tool that is used with Manila’s XML-RPC interface or with Blogger (another weblog tool) Current release only works with Blogger Can be run as a GUI or from the command line in Unix or Windows Java program Can be used on multiple platforms
4
Background Created and maintained by Josh Lucas, on sourceforge.net Sourceforge.net is the worlds largest repository of Open Source code and applications available on the Internet Can be downloaded from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jericho/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/jericho/ Jericho homepage: http://jericho.sourceforge.net/ http://jericho.sourceforge.net/ Latest release: August 26, 2001 Latest Version: 0.5
5
Tools Needed Must have Ant to build Jericho Ant is: “make without make’s wrinkles” Extended using Java classes rather than shell commands The configuration file is XML based rather than shell command based By default it runs using a file name build.xml Can be used across multiple platforms
6
Ant Cont. System requirements dictate that to build and use Ant, you must have a JAXP-compliant XML parser installed and available in your classpath A parser is bundled with the Ant download, the apache Crimson XML Parser JDK 1.1 or later must be installed on your system
7
Features Can bring up a GUI to interface with your Blogger weblog You can select from your different Blog’s You can post to your Blog You can post to your Blog and publish your post for entire site visibility
8
How to Use Jericho Bring up the GUI Enter your Blogger username and password You must first create a Blogger username and password for this tool to work A new GUI screen will appear with a text box to enter your post text into You then enter your text to post Click on the post button Your post then appears on your Blogger page
9
My Blog
10
Implications for the Future Allows the ability to post to your weblog without bringing up a browser Could be more powerful once XML-RPC interface is implemented Will be usable with Manila Weblog’s
11
My Review of Jericho Extremely limited documentation Difficult to install Also need to install Ant No executable documentation so tool is difficult to figure out how to run The interface that it provides is not worth the install anguish
