History In the past the most common use for wood was heating and cooking. Structures were built to seize the fire called hearths. People used this form of fuel to warm up there cabins during brutal winters. This technique is still in use throughout the globe.

Cons Rainforests once covered 14% of Earth’s surface. Now only 9% is covered The remaining of it may be eradicated in 40 years. Nearly half of the world’s species of plants, animals and microorganisms will be destroyed do to deforestation. Storage problems because wood creates greater bulk per unit.

Pros Wood is the most easily available form of fuel. Easy to acquire Campfire, stove, fireplace etc. Its renewable Its considered “carbon neutral” Or a net zero carbon footprint. If dry can burn easily.

Consumption Consumption has increased 64 percent since 1961. More than half of 3.4 billion cubic meters of wood consumed annually is burned for fuel, the rest is used for; Construction, paper and variety of other wood products. Demand for lumber and pulp expected to rise. between 20%-40% by 2010.
