5 Why Does the Flu Happen Every Year? There are 3 types of flu… A, B, and C. Type A changes every year, which is why you can never be immune to the flu. It usually occurs frequently in winter & early spring. Because the flu changes, or mutates, when new strains occur, it can cause an epidemic or pandemic.
