July 2007 Purpose To support institutions in their action planning towards their application for accreditation

July 2007 Outcomes 1. Place action planning in the context of the development of internal quality assurance systems and processes 2. Identify good practice in action planning 3. Evaluate current action planning and help participants to implement action planning in their institutions

July 2007 Action planning What is to be achieved? Why? When? How? How will you know it is achieved (or not?) Who? Is the plan evidence based?

July 2007 A strategic plan for the HEI will address the following: Purpose of the strategic review and plan Context (current position, mission, recent developments within and external to the HEI) Methodology used in the strategic review and plan, including indicative time horizon

July 2007 A strategic plan for the HEI will address the following: Evidence base - outcomes of data collection, SWOT analysis, or overview of a series of annual review reports Key strategic objectives Outline of plan with persons responsible, phases, milestones and indicators of progress and achievement

July 2007 A strategic plan for the HEI will address the following: Risk assessment including “what if” scenarios Estimate of costs Other non-financial implications

July 2007 A strategic plan for the HEI will address the following: Arrangements for consultation and implementation including monitoring, review and fine-tuning, and evaluation or impact assessment Endorsement by the Faculty Council and subsequently University Council with date.

July 2007 Plans for coordinating research activities and community service should also be developed on a five-year basis with: Identification of needs and priorities within the HEI’s mission Identification of strengths and particular interests Outcomes of consultations with key stakeholder groups including strategic partners and other organisations and groups with whom collaboration is strategically important

July 2007 Annual improvement plans for the HEI should capture the needs for action identified in annual course and programme reports and consolidated in the Faculty Annual Self- Evaluation Report. They should be realistic and implemented immediately and their impact reviewed within the year for use in the next annual reports.

July 2007 Who is responsible for delivering? Differentiate between what is directly within the control of the Faculty, and the need to involve others such as external stakeholders (for example, the university, employing community, ministry, supreme council, or others)

July 2007 When will the plan be achieved and you are ready for accreditation by the Agency? For each identified item & For the whole plan Use mission, strategic objectives and evaluation criteria as reference points Monitor progress Endorse achievements in faculty council

July 2007 What is your budget for the plan ? Prepare estimates of costs and resources - for each item - for the planning process Identify potential sources of funds Keep budget and accounts
