CDE Staff Change Rachel Perry is leaving CDE and will work as the Director of Research and Evaluation at the Sacramento County Office of Education in late August.

Continuous Enrollment The CDE has submitted a September board item requesting that the State Board of Education (SBE) approve the use of CALPADS data to determine continuous enrollment for 2012 AYP determinations (Please Note: The CDE has already used CALPADS continuous enrollment data for 2011 Base API calculation). The CDE will export the Continuous Enrollment data from CALPADS on August 15, 2012 to prepare the 2012 API and AYP reports.

Computer-Based Pilot Test The Computer-Based Testing (CBT) pilot will be administered on October 1-15, 2012. ETS will administer 10,000 pilot tests on each of the following areas: Grade 5 Science, Grade 8 Science, and High School Biology. Districts will receive the selected schools list in mid-August. ETS will host 2 webcast trainings (one training is for technical coordinators and the other is for testing coordinators) during the 2nd week of September.

Errors in 2012-2013 CELDT Domain Raw Score Conversion Tables There are errors shown on Domain Raw Score Conversion Tables of the 2012-2013 CELDT Examiner’s Manuals. Corrected tables and a revised Local Scoring Tool (LST) will be available on the CELDT website at http://www.celdt.org. Educational Data Systems will also print booklets, by grade span, for all tables and mail them directly to LEAs. http://www.celdt.org

K-1 Separation Educators’ Meeting K-1 Separation Educators’ Meeting on October 11 in Sacramento. – Recruiting K-1 educators to gather input on separating K-1 test. – Online application due August 17 at http://www.celdt.org/K-1group/. http://www.celdt.org/K-1group/ Administration of separate kindergarten and grade one tests is scheduled for 2015-2016.

CELDT New Resources Guide to Test Reports (GTR), formerly known as Test Results Interpretation Guides (TRIGs), will be posted in August at http://celdt.org/resources/. http://celdt.org/resources/ – Easier readability level than last year’s version. – A companion document, Performance Level Descriptors, explains the levels in the four domains and the Overall performance level by grade span. – Translated into Spanish, Vietnamese, and Traditional Chinese. Riverside County ELA Summary 11 th Grade Cohort in 2011 In 2011, 87% of the Riverside County grade 11 students took the EAP in ELA when they took the CSTs. Of those, 18% scored advanced on the CSTs and 19% scored ready for college in EAP ELA (81% were not college ready). In 2011, 21% of grade 11 “English Only and Fluent English Proficient” students scored ready for college in EAP ELA. In 2011, 14% of grade 11 R-FEP students scored ready for college in EAP ELA. In 2011, 0% of grade 11 English learner students scored ready for college in EAP ELA. Based on 2002-2011 CST results, students have to reach at least the CST proficient level by grade 2 and the CST advanced level by grade 9 in order to score ready for college in EAP ELA.

Riverside County Math Summary 11 th Grade Cohort in 2011 11th grade student must be enrolled in or have successfully completed Algebra II or higher in order to be eligible to take the EAP in mathematics. – In 2011, 48% of the Riverside County grade 11 students were eligible to take the EAP in math when they took the CSTs. Of those, 81% (39% of the total grade 11 students) took the EAP in math. Of those, 5% scored advanced on the CSTs and 9% scored ready for college in EAP math (91% were not college ready). – In 2011, 9% of grade 11 “English Only and Fluent English Proficient” students scored ready for college in EAP math. – In 2011, 7% of 11th grade R-FEP students scored ready for college in EAP math. – In 2011, 5% of 11th grade English learner students scored ready for college in EAP math. Based on 2002-2011 CST results, students have to reach the CST advanced level by grade 2 in order to score ready for college in EAP math.
