That is exactly the situation Availity found itself in. Availity is a US-based provider of medical insurance and claims processing and payments. It connects healthcare providers with insurers as they exchange real-time business and clinical information. The company processes almost 2 billion transactions annually. To support its plans for exponential growth, Availity needed to build out three high-performance, highly scalable, and highly secure data centers in new co-location facilities. The foundation they chose was a Juniper data center fabric with an architecture that reduces the entire data center network to a single, flat tier where all access points are equal. With no change to the applications, Availity saw an immediate 27% surge in throughput – measured in transactions per second. They also saw a 95 percent capacity increase, cutting processing time for key system tasks from hours to minutes.

That is exactly the case of Zulily, an on-line retailer; in fact it is one of the world’s largest web-only fashion retailers. Thousands of discounted items go on sale every day. Zulily’s flash sales typically take place over three days. In the fast-paced world of consumer clothing and fashion, speed is of the essence.
Zulily needed a cloud data center solution that would support its fast moving business culture. Reliability, performance, and security were paramount. Even more critically for them was an open, flexible network that would support its DevOps approach and work with its other toolsets. Zulily’s data center solution needed to provide a strong foundation for its private cloud and integrate easily with its production site, hosted at a public cloud provider.

Something similar to this happened to BancABC. Headquartered in South Africa, BancABC operates in a number of countries in Africa. They offer a diverse range of financial services including personal, business, and corporate banking as well as asset management, stock trading, and treasury services. Rapid business expansion resulted in BancABC’s core banking system’s customer database doubling year-on-year, especially since its introduction of retail banking services.
To deal with this growth they started a full revamp of their IT infrastructure. The resulting data center hosts Customer Relationship Management (CRM), credit checking, and Internet banking applications. The environment was planned from the beginning to support virtualization and enable the flexibility to separate services and applications from physical hardware, allowing the bank to move resources such as applications and storage to where they fit best. This central data center is built on a Juniper Networks switching and security network. Because of network automation integrated with storage and VMWare virtualization, all virtual machine changes are reflected in the network, where they are checked and verified before being implemented. This has reduced the number of support calls handled by the network operations staff to almost zero, as it eliminates the errors inherent when humans must make multiple modifications. In addition, the network has far greater performance than before. Daily Database replication for example now finishes seven times faster which is a massive productivity gain.
