HYL Program Overview Mission: To provide the children and families the opportunity to learn the game of lacrosse in a safe environment that provides the possibility for all players of all abilities to develop skills and game knowledge. We will emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, fair play and respect for all and will work with the children and families, regardless of ability, in a sports setting, to foster and promote understanding in the fundamentals and the fine points of lacrosse.

HYL Program Overview Practices: @ 30 total practices Mid-late February Indoor only (location TBD) March – June Outdoor only (Marlowe Middle School) Games: Regular season begins 2 nd week of April 6 – 8 Games for all age divisions Tournaments Pre-season: Local, all age/division (March 19 th /20 th tentative dates) End of season: Qualifying teams and divisions will participate (usually first weekend of June)

Age Requirements and Divisions Age Division breakdown as follows: U9 - Born on or after 9/1/2006 U11- Born on or after 9/1/2004 U13- Born on or after 9/1/2002 U15- Born on or after 9/1/2000 8th grade only

League Participation Northwest Chicago Youth Lacrosse Federation League (NWCYLF) U9, U11, U13 Level based on demonstrated skill in February practices Illinois Boys Lacrosse Association (IBLA) U11, U13, U15 C – level for all age groups

Sports Injury Statistics The ranking of most injuries in sports is very speculative, however for boys U9-U15 1.Football 2.Ice Hockey 3.Lacrosse 4.Wrestling 5.Soccer According to the American Journal of Sports Medicine, in a study from 2008-2012 Concussions in boys Lacrosse accounted for 20% of all injuries. Of that 20%, 75% resulted from body-to-body collisions.

Concussion Awareness Definition: A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury that changes the way the brain normally works.

Centegra and ImPACT Testing Cognitive baseline assessment and the follow-up care necessary to provide the best possible outcomes. The full assessment takes 30-40 minutes using the ImPACT test: An online testing program used to test cognitive ability with certified impact consultants The program measures multiple aspects of cognitive function in athletes including working memory, reaction time, speed and concentration The combination of baseline and post injury testing helps to evaluate a student’s condition and their ability for a safe return to play – recommended for ages 10 to 18
