Florence, Italy Florence is located in Italy, along the Arno River. Between 1300 and 1600, it was home to some of the greatest artists and thinkers of the Renaissance. Many advances were made here.

Architecture and Engineering

Architecture Architects and builders were influenced by Greek and Roman designs. They really liked the rounded arches, straight columns, and domed roofs. Ideas of humanism also made their ways into outdoor plazas.

Engineering Engineers used many classical architectural techniques to design their buildings. The dome of the Duomo di Santa Maria del Fiore is an eight-sided cathedral. Its design is one of the greatest engineering achievements of the Renaissance.

Science and Mathematics

Science People began to question old beliefs and started experimenting. News discoveries in anatomy, such as blood circulation and the workings of the eye, were made because of experimentation.
