2 Learning Intentions This week we will: Learn what is meant by ‘a balanced diet’ Learn about the benefits of a healthy diet Cook a ‘healthy’ dish – Pasta with Tomato Sauce

3 Success Criteria I can: 1. State what a balanced diet is 2. Explain why a balanced diet can benefit health 3. Complete all class-work thoroughly 4. Make Pasta with Tomato Sauce safely and hygienically

5 Balanced Diet In groups discuss the following questions: 1. What is a diet? 2. What is a balanced diet? Share your answers with the class

6 Balanced Diet Definition Copy the definition of a balanced diet into your jotter: “A balanced diet provides all the necessary nutrients in the right amount to meet an individual’s needs.” One way to follow a balanced diet is to make sure we eat a variety of foods which supply a range of nutrients.

7 Benefits of a Balanced Diet Eating a balanced diet is important as it means your body gets all the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. A balanced diet should lower your risk of the following dietary diseases: Obesity, Coronary Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Strokes, Cancers, Tooth Decay, Bowel Disorders
