3. Why do we need these Committees? To establish concrete College-wide structures and processes for faculty’s participation in governance To implement best practices other School’s and Colleges of Business To achieve AACSB accreditation, a top priority for the College and CSUMB These committees are essential to meet key accreditation standards: strategic management, faculty qualifications, assurance of learning and curriculum etc. The COB faculty’s active participation is the key to meet these and other standards

4. Why the SPAC Committee? To begin establishing concrete COB-wide structures and processes for faculty’s participation in the College’s strategic governance Accreditation is a mission-driven and faculty-driven process It means that a college/school needs to manage its operations guided by its mission, strategic plan, core principles, etc. (Strategic Management). It needs to develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust its strategic management programs (e.g., mission, strategic plan) on a regular basis So, accreditation and strategic management are highly intertwined and overlapping Strategic Planning and Accreditation Committee (SPAC) will establish a forum for faculty to actively participate in the College’s strategic management and accreditation process

5. Strategic Planning & Accreditation Committee Charge – Advise the Dean on COB’s strategic management issues – Oversee the development of College’s vision, mission, strategic plan, and core values or guiding principles – Review periodically the implementation and outcomes of Strategic Plan and recommend adjustments as necessary – Oversee efforts and recommend plans to achieve and maintain accreditation Composition – Dean (co-chair) – Director of AACSB Accreditation (co-chair) – COB Chair/Associate Dean – 2 full-time tenure-track faculty (1 to be added in 2014-2015) – 2 part-time faculty – 1 staff member (Budget Analyst) + Dean’s Admin. Asst. (Secretary)

6. Why the CAFD Committee? Faculty’s active participation in curricular development and management is essential to the mission and operations of the COB and hence accreditation The COB needs close coordination on curricular issues across concentrations and programs since changes in one program may have impacts on others within the COB Faculty qualifications are among the most important accreditation standards – key reason for why schools have failed in the accreditation process Faculty need to actively participate in defining, evaluating and revising criteria for academic and professional qualifications Faculty need to actively participate in developing and implementing initiatives and programs to enhance faculty qualifications and develop faculty in research and teaching effectiveness CAFD provides the forum and platform for faculty’s active participation in curriculum and faculty development

Curriculum & Faculty Development Committee Charge Advise Dean on curriculum & faculty development matters Initiate efforts to improve our programmatic and curricular offerings and their delivery Represent COB-wide faculty’s perspectives on programmatic and curricular issues and their impact on accreditation Develop policy and procedures for reviewing program and curriculum proposals Enhance faculty research productivity and teaching effectiveness Develop and revise faculty qualification definitions Develop faculty funding priorities, policy and processes Review and evaluate funding applications when COB faculty development funds are involved Link faculty funding with productivity and outcomes Review and evaluate all degree-granting program/curriculum initiatives, faculty development initiatives and revisions

8. Why Assurance of Learning (AoL) Committee? Assurance of Learning (assessment) is a key accreditation standard. This is another top reason why schools have failed in the accreditation process Over 80% of schools seeking accreditation have established such a committee Student’s learning is the key function of any school’s operations Assurance of Learning is a faculty-driven process and the AoL Committee ensures this

Assurance of Learning (AoL) Committee Charge Develop, lead and manage the process to assess student achievements of program learning outcomes Enhance faculty understanding of, and participation in, assurance of learning Assure assessment process is understood and the assessment cycle is completed and documented for programs Articulate the implications of assessment results and recommend actions to appropriate committees, programs and departments of the School Monitor and manage relevant AACSB and WASC AOL standards and guidelines
