Stand Fast Holding The Traditions
3
A tradition is “a handing down” of teaching, instruction and practice. Traditions are part of all aspects of life: family, nation, culture, church, worship, etc.
4
Origin of faith-based traditions determines if it carries with it divine authority. Jesus rebuked Jewish traditions of the elders (Matthew 15:2, 6). Paul commanded the holding of traditions he had taught (2 Thessalonians 2:15). – Traditions laid down by apostles of Christ carry with them the authority of Christ. 1 Corinthians 14:37; 4:16-17; Matthew 18:18; John 20:21-23
5
Origin of faith-based traditions determines if it carries with it divine authority. Example of the Lord’s Supper: 1 Corinthians 11:23, 26, 27-29; Acts 2:42; 20:7
6
Walk in Christ as taught in the Gospel (Colossians 2:6-7). Be rooted, built up, established and walk. – Beware of worldly traditions (Colossians 2:8). New Testament traditions should never be disregarded because they are according to Christ. – Hebrews 10:23-25; 13:15; Acts 2:42
